About Us

are-img-99Gagan Foods was established in 1991 by Paul & Ruby Arora under the name “Weavers Canada” Imports. In 2003 the company was formally renamed Gagan Foods International Ltd., and by the end of 2010, Gagan Foods captured over 60% of the market for South Asian grocery products. Gagan Foods is now the largest distributor of South Asian grocery products in Western Canada, catering to Indian, Pakistani, and other Asian populations living in Canada.

The company has also launched its own registered “Gagan” brand in which they distribute spices, lentils, rice, flour, and other assorted grocery products to consumers. Gagan Foods is also a registered unit within the National Herbal Products Directorate (NHPD) of Canada and are sole distributors of Dabur health products in Western Canada.

aboutus-2The Gagan brand has become synonymous with other leading entrepreneurial businesses within the growing South Asian population in Canada. Today, we cater to more than 500 grocery retailers across Canada, including many serviced by mainstream supermarkets such as the Overwatea Food Group, Loblaws, Sobeys, and Wal-Mart.

Achievements & Contribution

Since moving to Vancouver in 1991, the Arora family has maintained close ties to hospitals around the Lower Mainland, including both the BC Children’s Hospital and Richmond General Hopsital. Paul & Ruby have built lasting relationships with the foundations that are in charge for caring for our future generations and have made it a point to give back to the community that has provided them with so much. Past contributions have included:

March 2015 – Pledging to donate $50,000 to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

June 2014 – Donating a new Cardiac & CO2 monitor for the emergency room at Richmond General Hospital

Paul, along with his son Gagan, are also active members of the advisory council for the A Night of Miracles Gala hosted by the BC Children’s Hospital. This gala is an initiative brought forward by the South Asian Community of Vancouver, and since its inception in 2009, has raised over $3 million towards a new Special Procedures Suite in the BC Children’s Hospital (scheduled to open in 2017). The Arora family urges others to get involved with this amazing initiative, with further details available at the link below:

“Our goal is to give all Canadian families, regardless of their backgrounds, the opportunity to taste authentic South Asian foods from around the world, and more importantly, an opportunity to explore and learn about our storied culture. “
